In the last few weeks we’ve seen quite a few extortion emails claiming that they have intimate video of you and proving this by displaying a password that is often times a real password you’ve previously or currently use.
The use of your password in these emails is not confirmation that you’ve been hacked, so there is no need for immediate panic. These are being pulled from previous data breaches such as those from Equifax, Facebook and others and are being used to suggest your current accounts are compromised. It is however a concern if you see a password that you recognize and you’re still using it for one or more accounts.
If you see a password that you know belongs to you now or previously in one of these extortion emails, contact Galileo immediately so that we can run a dark web ID scan. We’ll also want to work with you to change your current passwords.
